Meghan Markle's wedding dress was finally revealed during the Royal Wedding 2018 on Saturday, taking the world by surprise.

The bridal gown, designed by British dress designer Clare Waight Keller, was on full display as Meghan walked down the aisle to meet her prince.

The designer had just been appointed as the first female artistic director at the house of Givenchy, a favourite brand of Meghan's.

Waight Keller beat several prestigious dressmakers to design the gown, but is it the best royal wedding dress ever?

What did Meghan Markle's wedding dress look like?

Royal fans around the world were stunned as Meghan Markle approached Prince Harry in St George's Chapel on Saturday.

The design of the bridal gown had been kept secret running up to the royal wedding, and the world couldn't wait to find out what it looked like.

Drawing parallels to Grace Kelly's effortless elegance in Hollywood, Meghan Markle's wedding dress stole the hearts of the nation.

The dress was designed by the newly appointed artistic director for Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller, a British designer who beat other top designers including Ralph and Russo to design the gown.

In an exclusive interview withExpress.co.uk, the UK wedding dress designer known simply as Raishma describes how the incredible dress accentuated every good aspect of Meghan's figure.

She told theExpress.co.uk: "Meghan's gown was a constructional masterpiece. Using only six seams in the entire garment, the simplicity of the gown, the cut and the luxurious heavyweight bonded silks used, created a very clean silhouette that will be timeless in years to come.

"Meghan's understated style of gown looked like a throwback to the days of Grace Kelly with its air of Hollywood glamour. The craftsmanship of the dress, with 3 layers of organza under the skirt and the cut of the square-shaped train was set off by the extravagant 16ft tulle veil with delicate hand beading."

Raishma is an expert on royal wedding dresses, having trained as a designer under the Emanuels who designed Princess Diana's wedding dress.

She has since designed several wedding dresses for other royal family members, including Princesses Eugenia and Beatrice.

Raishma also played a small part in the Royal Wedding, designing and creating a couture gown for Meghan and Harry's friend Cassandra Lokko, wife of former-gangster turned community activist, Karl Lokkio.

Was Meghan Markle's Givenchy gown the best royal wedding dress ever?

There have been several stunning wedding dresses in history, each more spectacular than the last.

Meghan Markle had every resource available to her when designing her bridal gown, but not every royal bride has had the leisure.

When Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip in 1947, there was still a clothing ration imposed on Britons after World War 2, meaning that the royal bride-to-be had to use clothing coupons to find materials for her wedding dress.

But how does Meghan's dress compare to the Duchess of Cambridge's dress?

Comparing wedding dresses of previous royal brides, Raishma added: "The best Royal wedding dress, in my opinion,is Kate Middleton's. I think the first time we saw Kate's gown, the entire nation had that breath-taking moment that seemed to be missing with Meghan's.

"However, we must remember this is Meghan's second wedding, and she may have felt compelled to 'dress down' her gown to escape critics that may label her inappropriate. I like that Meghan didn't go with the expected shape, or the expected fabric of lace and instead brought something new and refreshing to the traditions of Royal Weddings and bridal trends.

"Lace has been the dominating trend for so many years in this industry and it's nice to see a distinctive change of simplistic silk back on trend."
